Microsoft Windows is a bad product. There is no reason to use it except inertia. You will be more productive and less annoyed if you move to another operating system. It is very easy to do so.
On Windows, each application has its own update strategy and its own prompt reminding you to update. Once you give in, you usually get a forced restart. I hope your inspiration survives the wait. You will sometimes find your sound levels or graphics switches have been changed for no reason. When Windows wants to push you into using some setting or application, it activates it by default. If you disable it, Windows periodically reenables it without notifying you, then renames and moves the switch to disable it. On Linux, there are no reminders, unless you want them. Your settings stay in place until you change them. When you choose to update, it is one command. Everything gets updated, including the operating system itself, and you are done with updates for the current cycle. You can carry on working during and after the update.
The frequency of notifications on Windows is excessive. You are notified for updates and every other thing some manager at Microsoft wants you to look at. There are advertisements built into the system menus. This shows the level of contempt for customers that you can expect from a plutocratic entity like Microsoft. You can turn notifications off, but remember that Windows likes to flip your settings against your wishes, because it is going to do it here too.
Microsoft intentionally designs file formats to be obscure. This makes it harder for software developers to provide you with alternative software that interporates with these files. You are hampered from working with people who use Microsoft software unless you too use Microsoft software. In the past, Microsoft has even terminated software products, while keeping the associated data formats secret. The time and effort people sunk into these products was taken from them, without compensation.
Sometimes, through enormous efforts, software developers have reverse-engineered Microsoft's obfuscated data formats. This has been done for Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. Many people now choose to use Libre Office or Google Docs instead. Microsoft has realized the game is up, so now they let anyone with an Outlook account to use their office suite through a web browser. Today, thanks to developers who care about software freedom, even people who are forced to use Microsoft Office files for work or school can do so without a Windows machine. Do not let the monopolist tell you that this was generosity.
Windows has no offline documentation. You will not find an official PDF manual for Word, Excel, or Teams. Information is published on Microsoft's website but if you save a hyperlink and want to come back to it a few years later, good luck. Nothing on the website is kept stable. The monopolist does not care if users get frustrated, only if they leave.
The one thing Windows users still point to is video gaming. There were good reasons to game on Windows in the past, but they disappeared by 2022, at the latest. This is largely thanks to Valve Corporation. Wine and Steam Proton let native Windows programs run on Linux without change, and with practically identical performance. There will always be a few recently released games that actively block running on Linux, mainly multiplayer games using some kind of anti-cheat system. If you really must play these, do it on a games console. You get more performance for your money on a console because the fixed hardware lets game developers optimize better than they can on heterogeneous PCs. Just be sure to buy a Playstation, not an Xbox. Microsoft delenda est!
